The year is 1910, the setting is Pittsburgh, 49 years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and 97 years before our 1st Black President elect. Seth and Bertha Holly’s boarding house offers more than just room and nourishment to wayward souls. It is a boarding house where those who have been displaced, abused, and confused, come together and share a culture.

The late August Wilson (2005), has written poetic dialogue that explores the lasting effects of the newly freed slaves from the south, lost in someone else's religion, looming toward the North in search of identity, and ultimately in search of their individual songs - their freedom.

Fall 2012 Great Leaps Dance Concert

Featuring over 150 UH Hilo, HawCC and Community dancers performing Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Arial Dance pieces choreographed by instructiors Celeste Staton and Annie Bunker as well as guest choreographers.

The UH Hilo Jazz Orchestra

Under the direction of Trever Veilleux, the UH Hilo Jazz Orchestra performsa fun and eclectic mix of jazz-rock-funk-soul music. From Miles Davis to Frank Zappa, from Duke Ellington to Steely Dan, the Jazz Orchestra does it all. And, this concert will feature a special tribute to the Blues Brothers with choreography by Dori Yamada.
